Causeway During Advent – The 2020 collection so far…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

As promised, we are now past the half-way point, and loving the reactions we receive from passers-by. There is nothing lovelier than sitting in our dining room, making-up our Christmas card packs to take to the markets; hearing little children squeal in delight on their nursery and school runs. We take great enjoyment talking to people who are peering through the window when we come in and out of the house, it’s a great conversation starter.

Cherry’s window

Being an artist, Cherry was absolutely in her element when preparing for this window. Here we have a little video link of her painting it.

In previous years we had adopted 3 advent numbers, but as popularity has grown, more and more residents have become involved, making it a real community effort.

Causeway windows of 2020 – Part 1

The idea originally came from Jebs Bridgewater, the wife of former vicar, Guy, at St Mary’s C of E, who had significant help from Gail Hutchins, a resident of the Causeway – together they put the wheels in motion and made something magical.

Sadly Guy and Jebs have moved onto pastures new in Bath, but they have left a legacy behind them and hopefully will be able to introduce something similar where they are now.

We are delighted to hear that we are not alone in taking part in an advent window display, and that the residents of Rushams Road have started their own one this year.  Perhaps next year even more streets will take part. Here is a little article about other projects: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/30/advent-calendars-come-alive-families-try-spread-socially-distanced/

We still have 8 more digits to go, and we cannot wait to see them!
